The Assessment Task

Please provide a formally fully developed report on the practical value of the addressed cultural profiling tools for global business leaders. In this context please also describe the different components for at least one of the models. You are encouraged to additionally use examples – your own or from other sources – and address how the concept of cultural profiling can benefit international managers/leaders in their daily work.

How might you seek to convince local workers and managers to increase the diversity of their workforce (e.g., more women, more minorities, and so on)? What local conditions might be conducive to your success? What local conditions might suggest imminent failure?”

  1. Type of Assessment

The requirement is to produce a 2,000-word document that is structured and offers content in business report format. Students are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the difference between an essay and a business report.

  1. Requirements and components of the task

Since the report is written for the senior members of a company, strong adherence to formality, correctness and spelling and typos are expected and desired. Students are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the expectations toward a highly formatted piece of professional writing. Students need to understand that they are expected to offer interpretative, analytical and reflective value, and that an escalation of those expectations exist. Students, shall, therefore, familiarise themselves with the differences between description, analysis, reflection, and synthesis.

Please read carefully, as below I provide you with the assessment criteria:

1. Did the student read, understand and actually follow the instructions in the assignment briefing?

2. How is the presentation/look and feel of the essay and adherence to formality?

3. Quality of citations and referencing

4. Ability to display critical thinking and reflection; AND uniqueness of the work

5. Ability to conclude and to issue recommendations

1. Did the student read, understand and actually follow the instructions in the assignment briefing?

·  Fully developed = All chapters from cover page, ToC, Introduction till Conclusion and Recommendation

·  Practical value of cultural profiling tools = How does cultural profiling unfold in a global business setting? Can it be used, is it useful, how does it help leaders?

·  Different dimensions for at least one of the models = Choose any one of the modules and describe their dimensions. While Hall and Hofstede are the easiest, uniqueness in your work will be noticed!

·  Provide examples for how cultural profiling affects business decisions = Use examples of your own experiences, those that you have read about, or even those that you imagine when describing how the cultural dimensions affect business decisions

2. How is the presentation/look and feel of the essay and adherence to formality?

· Does the page ‘breathe’?

· Page numbers on each page

· Chapter/headline numbering; also reflected in the ToC

· Proper use of short sentences, punctuation

· Stringency in using line/paragraph spacing

· Avoid typos, and other non-proper formatting such as empty spaces etc.

3. Quality of citations and referencing

Please do use ‘Harvard Referencing”. Guidelines for this format are available on NILE. Understand to correctly cite and reference. Also, see the video on NILE for that (11-2).

· Citation: Paraphrased from a source à Peter is believed to go to school (Miller, 1996); Taken unchanged from a source -=-> “Peter goes to school” (Miller, 1996:55).

· Referencing: Familiarize yourself with proper referencing regarding books, journal articles, online sources, and their alphabetic display at the end of your document

4. Ability to display critical thinking and reflection; AND uniqueness of the work

· Critical Thinking is …

… discovering analogy and other format of relationship between pieces of information

… comprehending and evaluating the relevance and validity of that set of information whether it can be used for structuring and solving a problem or challenge

… identifying and/or assessing possible solutions or alternatives to a challenge

 – Reflection is …

… considering the larger context and how the information is embedded in a wider field, the implications of a subsequent experience or action

… focused thought on understanding and developing learning in new situations

… learning directly from own experiences, and not from the experience of others

… based on real activities and real consequences

5. Ability to conclude and to issue recommendations

– The conclusion is the last paragraph in an essay. It completes an essay and reemphasizes main ideas and statements.

– It shows a reader the significance of the essay

– How and why is this topic important

– How can the topic affect people

– What can be learned from that topic

– Enhance your conclusion by prediction, recommendation, quotations

•  A recommendation is the author’s convinced and shared knowledge that stems from the in-depth research from the essay

•  Are the possibilities stemming from an advanced interpretation and understanding of the topic

•  Demonstrate to the reader the ability of the author to apply specific knowledge to different situations

•  Provides the reader with ideas to take advantage of knowledge

Please find below a possible structure of your essay (just a suggestion!!!)
