In general, biopsychosocial can be referred to as a perspective that tries as much as possible to give the exploration of abnormal behavior as an interplay of social, psychological, and biological factors. According to Gilbert, a biopsychosocial model is an approach that is very integrative in showing the benefits that come up with the capability of recognizing the interplay that exists in the following factors social, psychological, and biological in treating behavior that is abnormal understanding. (Gilbert, 2019). The biological factors are the functioning of the brain, genetic predispositions, and psychological processes, while the psychological factors include emotions, personality, and via patterns. Cultural, economic, and environmental factors are the social factors that impact an individual’s behavior.

            The significance of the biopsychosocial model in human behavior understanding is putting more focus on the social environment’s role in shaping individuals’ behavior (Saleebey, 2001). The social environment can be family, peers, and community, and they can as well influence the beliefs, values, and altitudes of the individuals. According to the reading by Pilgrim, he points out the biopsychosocial model is a framework that can be utilized in health research but as well it contains some limitations (Pilgrim, 2015). For example, it may not account adequately for the dynamics of power influence and social structures that influence the behavior of an individual and outcomes of health.
