Elements of the rhetorical situation:
- what is the full name of author?
- who is the author? (what profession? what credentials? what connects the author to this subject?) ● what is the title of text?
- what is the context? (this might include the year of publication or the website or journal the article was published in – consider what might be important to mention) ● what is the main idea or argument in the text?
For example:
Alyson Klein, a veteran education reporter for Education Week, explores a new way that AI can assess computer coding assignments in her 2023 article, “This AI Tool Cut One Teacher’s Grading Time in Half. How It Works.”
NOTE: Be careful not to borrow too closely from the author’s bio. It’s your job to capture the most important information in your own words to emphasize the details that are most important for understanding the writer’s perspective.
